5 TIPS FOR HEALTHY SKIN

Good skin care and healthy lifestyle choices can help delay the natural aging process. Our skin is the largest organ of the body with multiple layers, old skin and dead cells accumulate and stay on our skin unless treated off. Healthy skin is key in revealing your real beauty.
1. Adopt a skin care routine
Taking care of your skin doesn’t have to be a long process. Many people complain about not enough time in the day, but taking 2- 5 minutes a day pays off and the results are evident in the look of your skin. You can customize your routine to fit your available time and needs, choose smartly from endless products available. Determine what your main skin problem is first, what you would like to treat? Do you have aging skin? Hyperpigmentation? Any other concerns you may have. Or simply want to adopt a routine to achieve over all healthy skin.
2. Take off your makeup before bed
Did you know our skin is how the body rejuvenates and grows while we are asleep? Failure to remove makeup and impurities before bed has many consequences, none are pleasing for your skin. When you sleep at night, your pores open and the makeup you forgot to take off earlier that night goes into your pores and clogs them. This may lead to breakouts, sensitivity the following day and increase the size of your pores which will increase their visibility. Also, it can be very damaging around the eyes, in drying out your skin. The area under and around your eyes are very delicate and drying out the skin in that area on a constant basis can lead to premature aging. Did you know at night cleansing your skin is the best time to treat your skin? Use specialty products to prevent fine lines, wrinkles, puffy eyes, uneven complexion, and slow down the aging process.
3. Protect your skin from the Sun
The most important way to take care of your skin is to protect it from the sun. Sun can cause many skin issues such as wrinkles, freckles, age spots, and rough, dry skin. It can cause Hyperpigmentation (patches of skin darker then others, discoloration) and premature aging. Sun exposure can also cause more serious problems, such as skin cancer. No matter what skin type you may have, protection is important. Before going out into the sun (even if in the winter) put sunscreen on 30 min prior to exposure. This will help prevent sun from damaging your skin. Longer exposure to the sun needs reapplication.
4. Eat, Drink Healthy
A healthy diet can help you achieve the look you want and feel your best. Eat lots of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins. Studies have found that eating a healthy diet with fruits, vegetables, antioxidants, whole grains, and omega-3 fatty acids can help skin keep its healthy glow and look youthful. Try adding the following foods to your diet: Fish, Nuts, yogurt, Pomegranates, Dates, Carrots, and red potatoes, as an example. Drinking 6 – 8 glasses of water a day can help clear skin, as well as adding other benefits to your health. Our skin is 90% water. Without the right amount of water to keep that level the skin becomes dehydrated. In fact, dehydration does not affect the skin alone, but the rest of the body, including the vital organs such as your kidneys and lungs.
Tip: Apple Cider Vinegar contains sulfur that naturally fights the effects of aging and acne. Put 1tsp of ACV in I cup of water and drink.
5. Don’t Smoke, Drink Alcohol in moderation
Smoking causes your skin to look older by removing nutrients and oxygen from the skin, such as vitamin A. Those nutrients are important in achieving great looking and healthy skin. Also the continuous facial expressions you make when smoking may contribute to wrinkles. If you smoke, the best way to protect your skin is to stop.
Effects of smoking are:
- Makes the skin to look dry
- Causes wrinkles to develop around the mouth the eyes
- Stains skin and teeth
- Causes premature skin ageing and wrinkling
- Slows the progress of wound healing
- Reduces blood flow to the skin
- Pale complexion due to nicotine constricting blood vessels
Alcohol can worsen skin conditions like rosacea, and acne. It dehydrates your body from natural oils and liquids. It also depletes the body of an important anti-oxidant, Vitamin A, which is known to help promote the production of cell-building compounds in the skin.
Effects of alcohol on the skin are:
- Causes broken capillaries
- Aggravates acne rosacea
- Causes craving and loss of control and affects personal grooming and skin care
- Premature aging

SLEEP! Our skin and body rejuvenates and grows while we are asleep. The first sign of trouble may be those dark circles, puffy eyes and dull skin tone, try to get more hours of sleep and you will see results.
Tips to ease tired, puffy eyes:
Lay or sit with your legs upright for better circulation. Put Cucumber on the eyes for 10 min, if those are unavailable you can use lavender or chamomile tea bags soaked in cold water over your eyes.
