All About Pores

All about Pores
By Spa de Soleil
A pore is any opening on the skin’s surface. These openings are how your skin releases oils, perspiration and toxins from the body through the sebaceous glands. Pores can easy become clogged by dead cells and debris if not cleansed regularly. The clinical name for a clogged pore is “come-done”.
Enlarged Pores
Our body creates thousands of new cells every 28 days, replacing your old cells with fresh new ones.  This is known as “Cell Turnover”.  Sometimes, your cells cannot remove the dead cells in time before the new cells come, thus, creating blockage to the pores. After the pore is clogged, a build up of sebum under the skin is the result. Clogged pores can be caused by inherited genes, hormonal changes (puberty or menopause), or environmental stress such as heat that cause the body to create more oil than normal. This creates enlarged more visible pores.
Symptoms of clogged pores include: • Blackheads : partially clogged pores
• Whiteheads : completely clogged pores
• Pimples : red bumps and inflammation of the pores and on the skin.
Ways to minimize pores We cannot control the size of the pores we were born with, but we can minimize the appearance of them temporarily. Not cleansing pores on a regular basis can cause them to appear larger than they really are, and can lead to blackheads, whiteheads, and pimples. In order to achieve the maximum results and a healthy looking glow, you need to remove the dead cells from your skin. An exfoliant with soft beads can effectively remove the dead cells and impurities without causing harm to the new cells. Exfoliating should be done 2 – 3 times a week after removing makeup and gentle cleansing.
Other pore minimizing tips:
pat a cold wash cloth, or cold compress on face on hot days
Use a face toner daily (after cleansing)
Avoid picking and squeezing pimples and blackheads as this can stretch the pores
Drink water (add 1/2 tablespoon Organic Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar to a glass of  water a couple of times a day, great for your skin)
Use clay face masks (clay has properties know to tighten skin)
See a skin care specialist regularly

Once your pores are clear of debris, you will be amazed at how much healthier and brighter your skin will look. Your skin will be smooth, soft, and radiant.

HYPERPIGMENTATION : Everything you need to know.

Hyper pigmentation : Everything you need to know

What is Hyperpigmentation
Hyperpigmentation is defined as the increase in the natural color of the skin. Melanin, is a brown pigment created by certain cells in your skin, it is responsible for skin color. Melanin production is stimulated by a hormone called “melanocyte stimulating hormone”. Hyperpigmentation is the excess of melanin in certain areas of your skin.
What causes it?
Darkened areas of the skin occur as a result of many different reasons.
* Sunlight : Tanning when the skin is sensitive to sunlight, or prolonged exposure without protection can create uneven skin tone, freckles and sun spots.
* Medications: Birth control pills, antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, and pain relievers, among others are common drugs responsible for hyperpigmentation.
* Hormones: Melasma (dark pigmentation of the skin) also called “the mask of pregnancy”,  is marked by brown to gray-brown patches on the face that are caused by the female hormone estrogen,  typically because of hormonal changes do to pregnancy.
* Other reasons: Birth defects, genetics (it is hereditary), scarring, vitamin and nutritional deficiencies are also among causes.
Treatment Options
The first step is to speak with a qualified specialist or dermatologist to determine the cause of your Hyperpigmentation. Once you know more about it, you and your doctor can decide on the best way to treat it.
Treatment options include :
  • Intense Pulsed Light – IPL is a type of laser that leaves no scars, can sometimes heal freckles or sun spots without using peels or hydroquinone creams.
  • Creams – These bleaching creams help lighten the specific areas. You can purchase or for severe cases a doctor prescribe one.
  • Hydroxy Acid Peels They increase cell renewal rate to allow fresh new cells to surface.
  • Monthly Facials   It is important to have monthly facials to make sure your skin is free from impurities and dead skin that can build up and perpetuate the dark areas. If you are receiving strong treatments regularly, facials can be done every 2 months or as directed by your aesthetician.
  • Laser resurfacing, Microdermabrasion – These treatments remove and evaporate the first few layers of skin to leave healthy, more evenly toned skin. Be cautious, scarring can be left behind on your skin which can worsen the situation.
Sunlight is the leading cause of dark spots on the skin, therefore shade and sunscreens are very important in avoiding Hyperpigmentation.
Home remedies: There are many home remedies one can use to treat Hyperpigmentation, but be aware that you may not get results you are hoping for and consistency to treatment is necessary to see any results.
Potatoes : have been known to help the with uneven skin tone because of the starch it contains. Cut the potato into slices and rub it in circular motions on the problem areas. Allow slices to rest on face for 10 to 20 min.
Citrus/ Lemon Juice: Lemon juice is very acidic, and contains high levels of vitamin C, which can increase the speed of cell turnover. This can help the skin grown new skin cells to replace the discolored areas. Spraying lemon juice on your face or applying with a cotton ball are both affective.
Rice Water : has been used for thousands of years. It is said to help lighten and tighten the skin. You can use this as a toner after cleansing your face.

Moisturizer – Why it is important for your skin!

Moisturizer – Why it is important for your skin!
By Spa de Soleil
Moisturizers are often overlooked as an essential part of skin care. The truth is moisturizer is one of the MOST important parts to a skin care routine.  There are many benefits to using a moisturizer on a daily basis (I’ve listed a few primary benefits below). Some moisturizers are specifically formulated to target concerned areas, including moisturizers with SPF to protect your skin from the sun.  Without a moisturizer your skin becomes dry and dehydrated which can look flaky, tight, dry and grey on the surface.
Benefits of the using a moisturizer on a daily basis:
Prevents wrinkles
Dry skin plays a big role in the aging process. Repetitive facial movements such as smoking, environmental stress and the sun are big factors in causing wrinkles. Moisturizer helps in slowing down the aging process as it stimulates blood flow and circulation helping the cell turnover rate to increase, bringing new cells to the surface more rapidly.
Protects from environmental stress and damage
Many moisturizers contain SPF, UV, UVB, protection. This guards you from the dangerous UV rays of the sun which will produce wrinkles and discoloration. It also acts as a barrier from harsh environmental elements and stress. During the winter it aids in maintaining the extra moisture your skin is loosing because of the weather.
Improves overall complexion
Skin care products that treat acne strip the skins moisture to kill the bacteria, thus leaving your face without moisture. When dehydrated the skin starts producing excess oil to compensate for the dryness, which can clog pores, and cause acne. Moisturizer gives your skin what it needs to be radiant and naturally beautiful.
Makeup application is smoother and more even
Soft, radiant skin is important to most women. Moisturizers aid in repairing damaged skin cells, leaving the top layer of skin smooth and radiant looking. It helps maintain the elasticity of the skin making it tight, soft and avoids sagging. When your skin is smooth, it will make application of Make-Up easier. When applying foundation or concealer to flaky or uneven skin, the makeup will look uneven and chalky instead of smooth and natural. Don’t mask skin issues; it attracts more attention to your areas of concern.
What should you look for in a Moisturizer?
– Choose a moisturizer that includes anti-aging properties in it to be effective against fighting wrinkles.
– Choose a cream that has SPF, UVB, UV protection from the sun rays.
– Moisturizers that contain Vitamin E and C, as these vitamins are essential for healthy skin.
– Always select a moisturizer that is best for your specific skin type. Feel free to ask advice to choose the best one for your skin.
If you have oily skin, it is important to be cautious with the moisturizer. It is still important to use it, but take notice to how your skin is responding, and in the amount you are using. Too much moisturizer can create excess oil, if you notice this; use less, such as only at night before bed.

Celebs know Organic is better! Many have converted all their cosmetics to Organic and eco friendly brands. Why go Organic? Well, many cosmetic products are compromised with synthetic preservatives, mineral oils,  and other highly processed ingredients. As you’re skin tries to deal with these foreign chemicals, it becomes weak. Because of this, our bodies become more susceptible to damage by free radicals, dryness, sun, pollution and stress -all of which may affect ones health and quickstart the aging process.
